Kagami went to Royal's office to show him some code that he finished but the man wasn't there so he decided to sit outside because Royal would show up eventually. He's wearing a simple white t-shirt and dark jeans and a puffy thick jacket that's warm. He pulls out a book and starts to read while he waits on the man.

* * *

It's really no guarantee that Royal will be back, given he spends time in the Uppers, and after a late night event, it's sometimes easier to stay over at the Embassy or get a hotel room. Fortunately, Royal had such a terrible time at said event that he felt a need to come back to the ground.

It's fairly late when the sleek black aircab lands on the platform on Royal's floor and disgorges the drunk, fashionably-attired-as-always Duke of Cumberland. He stumbles right past Kagami and places a hand on the panel that unlocks his door. It only takes him two tries to line his hand up correctly.

* * *

Kagami grins when he sees the air cab and closes his book and then Royal is stumbling by him. He frowns as he smells the alcohol on the man and pushes himself up. He moves behind Royal and grabs his bag. He waits patiently while the drunk tries to line up his hand but he doesn't speak. He is just going to follow him in.

* * *

Royal wheels around, clearly startled when he feels a presence behind him. He has to reach out and grab the table, but also clutches his chest dramatic. "Bloody hell, Kagami! Don't sneak up behind someone in this neighbourhood. I thought you were going to blow my stack out." He's weaving a bit, and there's a thin sheen of sweat on his forehead. He's clearly having trouble focusing.

* * *

Those eyes look at Royal and his gorgeous suit then back up to his face. "I didn't sneak up. I was right there." He points to where he was sitting. "Your safe. Open the door Royal." He lifts his hand and brushes it over Royal's forehead. "We need to get you out of that suit and drinking some water."

* * *

The suit is a little more 'peacock' and a little less 'understated style' but Royal does like to let his flambouyant flag fly a bit at conservative events. "Don't worry, I drank plenty of sake," he says with a wide smile. "And also some broth from some noodles that were too spicy for me. And I let you down terribly with the chopsticks." He smiles a bit sloppily, then staggers back to the other door panel that leads into his flat. He has to stay balanced against the wall for a moment, then sucks in a breath and staggers in, shedding suit jacket as he goes.

* * *

He nods his head slowly. "I see that, dear." He grins slowly. "At least you tried." Then he catches the suit jacket and carefully hangs it up. He moves over to Royal and touches his side lightly. "We are going to drink some water and you can tell me about this event." He grins warmly at the drunk man. "Why don't we sit over here?" He gestures to the couch.

* * *

Royal lets out a heavy sigh. "I don't want to talk about it, dear. I just want to go to bed." He starts to undo his waistcoat as well, but he's just loosening it rather than shrugging it off. He does sit on the couch, immediately slumping, eyes drifting a bit closed. His face looks troubled rather than his usual bravado.

* * *

He walks over to the kitchen and gets two giant glasses of water. He walks to the bedroom and puts one on the end table while he comes back and goes to his knees before Royal. His hand lightly brushes the man's chin. "You don't have to talk but you will drink this. All of it." He holds the glass out. "This is not a debate. Drink."

* * *

"Oooh, a pint of vodka? Lovely." It's a quip, but one Royal's heart doesn't seem in. He smiles, but it doesn't reach his eyes. He takes the glass, nearly drops it, then swallows a few mouthfuls. "Happy now, mum?"

* * *

Kagami frowns at the smile then shakes his head. "Not until it's empty." He makes sure the man doesn't drop the glass but he does go to the waist coat and start undoing it. "Once you are finished that glass, we are going to undress you and put you in some comfortable pajamas then put you to bed. So stop sassing me cause it's going to be easier to just listen to me."

* * *

"I will say, one of the best uses for VR is to escape a hangover. I tried it once when I had a particularly bad one. Stayed in for a few hours, came back out after everything had calmed." Royal smiles, swallows more water, then lifts his chin. "Why didn't you just message me? Why were you sitting on my porch like a puppy? I could have been gone all night." He's not arguing, at least?

* * *

Kagami grins. "We will do some VR in the morning." He gets the man's waist coat off before working on his shirt. "I didn't know where you were and I didn't want you to be at a dinner with your parents or something. So I waited." He shrugs his shoulders. "Keep drinking, you are doing well." He comments quietly.

* * *

"My parents are in London, dear. They wouldn't set foot in Bay City, which is one of the reasons I moved here. But it was almost as bad. An Embassy event." Royal swallows a bit more of the water, but he has to put it down to shrug out of his shirt. A shirt that actually has some splatter marks from the noodles on the collar - a telltale clue as to exactly how drunk Mr. Manners is.

* * *

Kagami nods his head. "Well I would have interrupted your embassy event." He points out. Once the shirt is off and he sees the splatter he grumbles quietly and takes the waist coat and shirt to a pile. The waist coat is checked over before being folded carefully and put aside. Kagami moves back and brings a cool cloth with him. He lightly wipes Royal's face with the cool cloth before moving down his neck. "Keep drinking. I want that glass empty."

* * *

The splatter does seem to be contained to the shirt and not the considerably harder to launder waistcoat or jacket. His eyes had drifted closed while Kagami had drifted away, so he opens them with a startled sound as the cool cloth hits his forehead. His brow furrows. Then with great effort, he leans forward and chugs the rest of the water. He holds it up in a salute, then sets the glass down - on the edge of the table. It falls off the edge, but luckily hits the area rug beneath the coffee table and it doesn't break.

* * *

Kagami groans and folds the cloth putting it on the back of Royal's neck. He grabs the glass and moves over to the kitchen. He growls at the dishwasher before putting it in the sink. The tech moves over and takes both of Royal's hands, "Bedtime." He says softly. He is very careful to lead Royal to the bed so the man doesn't slip of fall.

* * *

"Nnngh, why aren't you in a big, beefy sleeve so you could just carry me?" says Royal. He gets up, kicking off shoes as he goes, leaving them in the middle of the floor. When they reach his bed, he drops face-down on top of the covers. He's not asleep yet, but he might be any second.

* * *

Kagami sighs. "You under estimate my power. I could have carried you." He chuckles and rolls Royal over. He undoes his pants and pulls them off with the undies. He throws them on the floor for a moment and removes the man's socks then he moves Royal around in the bed until he's laying head on the pillows and Kagami is tucking him in. "Sleep." He leans over and kisses the man's forehead before moving to where he threw the pants and undies. The undies and socks go in the same pile as the shirt. He brings the pants over to where the waist coat is and folds them carefully. He sets the shoes at the door.

* * *

Royal doesn't protest any of this until his underwear comes off. He makes a grunted sound. But really, he's too tired to fully protest. He mumbles something that sounds like, 'why'd you take my underpants?' but within minutes he's asleep, and actually snoring.

* * *

Kagami takes time to clean up the place and set hangover aids on the side table before he settles in on a chair. Legs hanging over the arm and his head resting on the back of it while his jacket covers his legs. He falls asleep pretty easily after the place is cleaned up.

* * *

It isn't a full night's sleep by the time Royal wakes up. It's about six or so hours later when he stirs, moves, grunts, then slowly sits up to feel ice picks behind his eyes. He reaches for the bedside table, a bit confused to find hangover aides and a glass of water waiting for him. He doesn't question it, just swallows water, doses himself, then lies back down, brow furrowed and face contorted as he waits for the pain to ebb.

* * *

Kagami stirs when he hears movement and grumbles quietly. He stretches his legs out which have been bent over the arm of a chair. He moves his jacket and starts shivering. He slides off the chair and can barely take a few steps before blood starts rushing to his legs. He collapses before the bed. "You okay?" He says softly.

* * *

The answer is a soft grunt from Royal. Slowly, the fast-acting pills seem to be doing the trick, dulling the fiery pain in his head. He opens his eyes blearily. "You shouldn't give me too much sympathy for an entirely self-afflicted ailment," he croaks.

* * *

He crawls to the bed and his head pops up beside it. "Yes because how dare I try to help someone I care for." He shakes his head and looks over to the remedies. He nods his head and glances back to Royal. "You should go back to sleep." He grumbles. "Get another hour or so."

* * *

"Only if you lie down, too," says Royal into his pillow, eyes drifting closed again.

* * *

He nods his head and grins. "I will lie down too." He reaches his hand over and brushes his fingers through Royal's hair. He finally stands up and limps towards the chair where instead of resting his legs over the arm, he is curled up wrapped around them.

* * *

"On the…bed," mumbles Royal. But then he's back asleep again. If he's not disturbed, it'll be another two hours before he starts to stir again.

* * *

Kagami debates before he untangles himself and walks to the bed and looks for the PJ bottoms Royal would store. He finds some and switches his pants out for those, removes his socks and then crawls in the bed laying on his side. He tries to be as light as possible to not wake Royal.

* * *

Royal slides out of bed after the two hour mark, careful to not make too much noise himself. He goes to the washroom and eats a few more hangover remedy pills along with another pint of water. Then he's emerging from the washroom, still looking hungover but not quite so rough. "Why am I naked?" he asks, while standing there in his birthday suit. "And did I at least have fun?"

* * *

Kagami is happily curled up, looking so damn innocent in his white shirt right beside the naked Royal. Royal will see how lovely his clothes are folded and that Kagami's jacket is hanging over the back of a chair. The blonde's hair is all over the place and he's sound asleep.

* * *

Royal watches him for a moment, head tilted. Then he opens the panel door to his closet, retrieves a few things, then disappears into the washroom. He's apparently decided Kagami deserves to sleep longer. In the meantime, he's going to shower to help rehydrate himself.

* * *

The young unhungover one wakes at the sound of the shower. He pushes himself up and stumbles to the bathroom yawning. He walks into it and immediately has the stretches. His arms stretch over his head and his legs straighten. He glances around looking for Royal. "Are you okay?" He speaks in a tired voice.

* * *

The duke is just out of the shower, partially dried off and fastening the towel around his waist. "Much better, thank you." His smile's still a bit tight, and he definitely looks like he isn't a hundred percent. But he does seem to be looking not too bad considering how much he had to drink.

* * *

He nods his head and turns around and moves back to the bed, flopping down face first on it and then barrel rolling to burrito himself as he's cold. The tech makes little noises from under the blanket and all that's exposed are his feet.

* * *

There's the sound of something electronic faintly whirring. When Royal emerges from the bathroom, his hair is looking poufy and coiffed and curl-free. He's dressed quite casually for him in a deep eggplant purple cashmere sweater and dark blue slacks. He sits on the edge of the bed, and then says quietly, "Thank you for looking out for me. Would you like to sleep awhile longer?"

* * *

There is a tuft of blond hair out the top of the blanket burrito. He grumbles quietly. "I am cold." He shivers in the blankets. "I want to talk to you but it's sooo cold out." He wiggles a little and his head can be seen. "Want me to make you some good hang over breakfast? It will be healthy."

* * *

"I can turn up the heat a little if you'd like. Or you can have a nice warm shower?" Royal's voice is a little gravelly in the way those hungover can sometimes be. "My stomch isn't ready for more than coffee yet. But I was thinking of ordering something. I haven't got many groceries in my fridge."

* * *

He unrolls himself and grumbles. "You need too." He walks over to the freezer and puts some things in a baggy before he hits it on the counter and empties it into a glass. He walks over and holds out ice chips. He grins a little. "It does help." His body is covered in goose flesh and he's trying his best not to shiver.

* * *

"Why are you so cold? Are you getting sick?" Royal takes the cup and sets it aside, then reaches out to try and feel his forehead. "Because this flat is pretty optimally temperature controlled."

* * *

His forehead is rather warm. He lifts his hand and bats away Royal's hand. "No I'm fine. I was up all … well not last night but the night before. I was focusing on that stack. I really want a sample of the virus coding." He grumbles walks back over to his jacket and pulls out a book. He opens it and there are scribbles…scribbles everywhere.

* * *

Royal withdraws his hand and looks a little startled at the batting. "All right, all right." He's not a fusser, by nature, so he'll let it be. Instead, he moves to the kitchen and pokes at the robot until two cups come out. He sets it on the counter for Kagami, along with some fresh fruit he produces from the fridge. "Working on getting you access to the evidence the police have, but it's proving a mite difficult." He still moves slowly and sounds a bit rough. He's talking more quietly than he normally would.

* * *

Kagami walks over and nods. "I know you are doing what you can." He glances at the cup and then the fruit. He doesn't reach for it and he points to his book. "There is a pattern." He hunches over it. "Two ruined stacks with a Longbow. It's a message and a pattern and I put together a list of all possible pattern out comes and it's in…here somewhere." He rifles through the book

* * *

"If you're asking for my help with a pattern, I think that might best wait until later. I'm not at my sharpest right at the moment." Royal pushes the cup of coffee towards Kagami, then sips his own very carefully to make sure his stomach is going to tolerate it. After a moment, he does seem to think it's all right, so he has another slow sip.

* * *

Kagami takes a deep breath and stares at his work. He doesn't seem to recognize it. He reaches over and grabs for the coffee but he misses. He reaches further and further, slowly until his fingers touch the cup and he slides it closer. He takes a big sip of it but some dribbles from his mouth. He wipes it away quickly. "I could probably come back. Let you rest in peace."

* * *

Royal takes a seat at the counter and slowly sips at his coffee. "Apologies if I also told you this last night, but you really should feel free to message me before coming by. I don't always make it home, and I'd feel terrible if you waited outside in this neighbourhood all night."

* * *

Kagami lifts his eyes. "You mean the neighborhood I grew up in?" He grins. "I'd be okay." He chuckles a little before standing and starting to pace with the book. "I didn't want to interrupt your evening. I was happy to wait." He makes it to the couch on one pass and his knees wobble and he sits down and leans over since he totally meant to do that.

* * *

"But you don't need to wait. That's the point." Royal rubs the side of his forehead. "I'm sure you've got better things to do. And sometimes I spend a few days in the Uppers when duty calls for it. All it would have taken is a short ONI message to save you some trouble." He sounds a bit…well, not irritated, but not the happiest either. He tries a piece of fruit, but it seems too soon, because he doesn't finish the bite.

He moves across the room to the living area. "I don't need to be fussed over, really. I do appreciate you caring, but I want you to take care of yourself."

* * *

He nods his head. "I will message next time." He looks down at his book and then lifts his eyes. "You do need fussing over. That sleeve is precious to you and I couldn't let anything happen to it while you were drunk as a skunk." He shakes his head. "I'm fine, Royal." As he says fine, drips of blood come from his nose and darken his stark white shirt.

* * *

"Well, if that's the case, it's not your responsibility to…" Royal squints. "Kagami…" his jaw tightens. "…your nose is bleeding. I think we need to get you to a doctor." His voice is quite even but there's concern in his eyes.

* * *

He lifts his eyes and looks at Royal a moment as he talks. There is confusion playing over his face before he stands up slowly and touches his nose. He looks at the blood and his eyes roll back and he collapses to the couch. Someone can't stand the sight of blood.

* * *

Um. Health crises are not something that Royal knows how to deal with. He sets his coffee down and moves around to try and prop Kagami up. "Dear lord…Kagami? Can you hear me?" Meanwhile, his ONI flickers to put in a call to emergency services. Sometimes people have to wait a very long time for proper healthcare, but given his position and credit, it isn't long at all before help arrives.

* * *

Kagami is fully unconscious. Two people walks through the door with a gurny. The one moves over to Kagami while the other looks at Royal. "Sir, I have to ask a few questions. Firstly, what happened?" The other is putting a heart monitor on Kag and checking blood pressure.

* * *

It's hard to tell what Royal is thinking or feeling. He just kind of gets this neutral expression on his face. "We were just talking. He said he was cold, seemed a little unsteady, and then his nose started bleeding and he passed out." His lips press into a thin line. "Will you just take him to the hospital and get him the care he needs, please?" The last bit is a bit curt, a bit more upset professor than affable playboy.

* * *

The man talking to Royal seems taking a back and he nods. "We will take whatever he is out of your apartment, sir." He turns and they both lifts Kag onto the gurny and strap him in, putting the heart monitor over his body before wheeling him out. They load him into the air ambulance and close the doors.

* * *

"He's a friend, and you're not a bloody bouncer. Take care of him, on my tab," says Royal, irritation rising as well as concern. "If your company wants to make sure it keeps the contract with my family for medical services."

* * *

The one that was taking care of Kagami nods his head. "Of course we will sir. Would you like to ride in the back with him or just a report when we are done?" He holds out his hand held console ready to take notes.

* * *

Royal looks uncomfortable, like he doesn't quite know how to answer that. In the end, he grabs for the same long stylish coat he wore to the DJ event and then walks wordlessly towards the ambulance and gets in. Then he's scanning his ONI, trying to see if he can find contact information for Kagami's family.

* * *

Kagami's father works at the closest hospital. His mother is a lawyer and she's in Court today. The heart beat is steady and the ambulance takes off. He has an oxygen mask on and he's wired up to check a lot of this. "His temperature is high. Can you explain what you mean by unsteady? Did he fall? Was he able to walk?"

* * *

"He was walking, yes, and maybe a little unsteady. I wasn't…I was making coffee." Royal continues to frown and otherwise look rather perturbed. For those who know him as his more lighthearted self, it might be jarring. But there's no one there conscious right now. He sends an ONI message to both Kagami's parents explaining the situation and noting their destination.

* * *

The paramedic nods his head. "Alright. It was good you were there." There is a message back from his father. "I'll meet you there." It takes a few minutes of travel before the ambulance pulls up. The doors are opened and an older Japanese man who looks very dignified with kind eyes jumps up into the ambulance and quickly gets the vitals and all the information. "I cannot take this case. It's against ethics but my colleague will take the patient." He helps them unload Kagami and he steps out of the ambulance and looks over to Royal. "Come. Come." He waves the man to follow him.

* * *

Royal's mood doesn't get any better when he's confronted with the man who gestures him onward. He glances at the unconscious Kagami, then follows in step behind the man who is presumably Kagami's father. "I'm a bit concerned by the lack of urgency in this situation," he says. He's clearly not very comfortable in the hospital environment. Tension is palpable.

* * *

Kagami's father turns and looks at Royal. "If it was urgent, based on the ambulance to get to you and here, she… he'd already be dead. Something is afflicting him." He turns and moves into the room where tests are being run and the other doctor comes out. He whispers in Kag's dad's ear and moves back into the room closing the door on the men. He turns and stares up at Royal. "Did she… he eat anything weird? Street meat or something?"

* * *

"I don't know," says Royal. "Perhaps? But since when does an off bit of meat cause a nose bleed?" Royal folds his arms over his chest. "I didn't see him eat anything at all in the time he was with me. Just a few sips of coffee."

* * *

Dr Kagami nods. "It probably the parasite finally sapping his appetite. He has a brain infection from the thing. They are going to remove it and treat him with antibiotics. He should be fine in a few weeks but he's going to need someone to look after him." He looks at the door and shakes his head. "Or at least check in on him."

* * *

"Wouldn't that be you, sir?" says Royal with a tightness to his voice. "You are his family. Surely some discomfort with the sleeve your child is in wouldn't stop you from caring for him." He has his hands in his pockets. His shoulders are tense.

* * *

His jaw tenses before he looks towards the door. "I have other patients to attend to and the good of many outweigh the good of one. She knows this." He bows his head and takes a deep breath. "I must do my duty. Excuse me." He turns and heads out to the main area.

* * *

Royal steps in front of the other man. He's tall and imposing and he uses this to his advantage. "Your duty is to your child, sir. I am Kagami's friend. I am also the Duke of Cumberland, an attache to the English Embassy, a university professor, and a licensed private investigator with Ariana Longbow as a client. It is your duty to care for your child, not mine. And while I am concerned for his wellbeing, I am neither equipped to play nursemaid, nor am I the best person for that job."

* * *

Royal gets a glare. "Well Duke…" He straightens his back. "If I do not work, if her mother does not work, that body goes back and my daughter dies." He shakes his head. "You brought her here so you obviously care. She will get the best care here, as your credit allows but when she goes home… I cannot go with her. That is final." He might be little but he's very no bullshit and now poppa is grumpy. "I guess she will take care of herself." He walks around the man.

* * *

"I'll pay off the sleeve lease. Then you won't have that as an excuse not to care for your own child," says Royal in a way that is ever so slightly smug. "Unless that's not actually the real reason you are shirking your parental responsibilities."

* * *

Dr Kagami turns and points up at Royal as he walks forward. "You will not. You will bring me dishonor!" He snaps at the man. "She will take care of herself. She always has. Once those antibiotics start, she will be fine." The other doctor comes out with a jar and holds it out. A rather thick and long parasite. "This has been there a while. We are looking for more but we've started the antibiotics." He turns and walks back into the room.

* * *

Royal steps back from the jar and pulls a face. Ugh. He might have to rethink visiting street-level food vendors. It startles him enough that he only has time to throw out, "The real dishonour is not caring for your own child. You keep this up, then you will truly lose Kagami."

* * *

The doctor lifts his chin and grumbles back. "Her name is Ryuumi. If she's going by Kagami, I already lost her." A nurse rushes up and hands him some files and he turns and leaves Royal alone in the private waiting room. There is a view into the surgery room which is basically a doctor and three nurses digging around in Kagami's guts looking for more.

* * *

It's not something Royal really wants to watch. Instead, he goes to the hospital administration desk to make sure the bills will go to the right place, and to instruct a nurse attend to him when he's discharged if his parents really and truly refuse to care for their child. Then, the Duke calls for an air cab. He's still hung over from last night, but he's left feeling like he needs a drink.
