I must say… I'm glorious.

There's a rare bit of sunlight peeping through the ever present cloud cover on this cool, mid-winter afternoon, giving a sense of hopefulness to corners of the city that are otherwise gloomy and drab. The Neon District during the day always looks a little sad, with all of its myriad of lights and signs either turned off or flashing ineffectually against the daylight. Daytime does, however, make Tau Psychosurgery a little easier to find and a littler harder to miss.

In the main sitting area today, The aquarium holds an anemone with pale, purple-tipped tentacles waving in the artificially created current. A pair of bright orange, black, and white clown fish dart about the tank, occasionally nuzzling into the anemone like it's some alien, excessive shag rug and otherwise swimming hither and yon as if on patrol against potential invaders.

Tl;dr: It's a bit sunny and clown fish are adorable assholes.

In the back room, which is really the psychosurgery office proper, Winter and Kagami are stretched out on their respective chairs, having recently jacked in to begin their next Psychosurgery session together. Within VR, they're back on the path within an autumn wood that sports vibrant red, yellow and orange leaves on the trees and scattered about the forest floor. There's a couple chairs and a table with a pot of green tea, two cups and an assortment of cookies ad cakes laid out. Incongruous, sure, but still a lovely spot for tea and talking.

Winter is seated and wearing fitted, black pants and vest with pink pinstripes and a button-down shirt of a color to match said pinstripes. "So," they say as they pour the tea, "tell me about your week."

* * *

The young man is sitting comfortably in the chair having been jacked in. He needs a little rest because oh he ate a lot and he's got a food baby going on. In VR he's wearing the male skin right out the gate. He's looking more calm and healthy. He gets his tea and thanks her. "My week?" He grins a little and sighs. "The migraine is going away though I keep getting it. Entirely my fault so don't ask there. I got a hug from a guy I like." He rubs his stomach and grins. "I went to the houses and met someone cross-sleeved. They told me how I was self harming because I wasn't taking care of my sleeve. They opened my eyes to what I was doing. Not eating, not… physically taking care of myself so since then… I have eaten all the food and have explored my body." He smiles brightly. "I must say… I'm glorious." He chuckles.

* * *

Winter's brows lift a little for 'migraine', but being a consummate professional, they don't ask (right now) and only finish pouring the tea and setting the pot down as they continue to listen. "That sounds like a very productive week, and you certainly seem much more at ease in your sleeve. And wearing clothes that fit your body as well, I notice."

* * *

Kag nods his head and grins. "It was very productive." He chuckles and gestures to his sleeve. "That guy I like… helped me pick out clothes that suit me." He blushes a little. "He's lovely." His eyes glaze over as he thinks about the man before shaking his head and clearing his throat. "Anyways! How are you doing?"

* * *

"Clothes and a hug," Winter muses with a soft smile, "My my." They lift their teacup, cradling it gently and letting the heat warm their palms. "I'm well, thank you. This is your time, your session. We don't have to talk about me. Tell me more about this fellow who makes you all dreamy and distant."

* * *

"I know! Big steps." He chuckles and watches her. "But I should ask because otherwise, I'm an asshole." He blushes when she asks him to talk about the man. "He's tall, brown hair and… eyes so full of emotion. Brown eyes…beautiful brown eyes. A cheeky grin. He also knows how to scold me and me not be upset that I'm a grown ass man being scolded by another." He sighs quietly. "He's passionate, reckless, caring, and sassy as fuck."

* * *

"Why would you be an asshole?" Winter asks with a cant of their head. They have a small sip of tea as Kagami speaks about his crush. "Do you think he reciprocates your affections?"

* * *

Kagami grins. "Someone who is helping me work through stuff and I don't at least say how are you? That's horrible." He points out though his smile fades and he shakes his head. "Not at all. He cares but I think he does so out of necessity because I'm a hacker and he needs me. There are zero sexual feelings from him to me."

* * *

"I'm your psychosurgeon, and I'm glad to be helping you. It just wouldn't be appropriate for me to talk about myself in the middle of a session meant to be focused on you," Winter explains. There's a small nod as Kagami says a bit more about this man he cares for. "Needs you?" they query. "How so?"

* * *

Kagami nods his head. "Alright." He takes a deep breath. "He's GPPI and I hack into things, repair things for him, and am generally useful." He points out. "I have been working a case with him." He puts out there quietly. "He needs me like an asset. Nothing more."

* * *

"Oh, I see," Winter muses before taking another sip of tea and considering the plate of cookies. "Does this have anything to do with that case you thought you might be working on a little while back? Something to do with a damaged DHF?"

* * *

Kag nods his head. "It's…so much worse than that." He points out. "See the substance that people thought damaged the stack to corrupt the DHF wasn't what they thought since they moved the DHF to another stack and the DHF started to corrode that stack. The digital information started to corrode metal. What the shit does that?" He shakes his head. "Anyways there is more than one now. This case is just getting bigger and bigger."

* * *

Winter listens, brows lifting a little higher. "Code… corroded metal? Is that even possible?" So much for a session all about Kagami. "Is this… I understand if you can't tell me, but are you working on the case about the Ariana Longbow clone?"

* * *

He shakes his head. "I didn't think it was but I saw it." He points out. Then he nods his head and frowns. "There isn't just one clone." He whispers. "You can't say anything."

* * *

Winter quirks the tiniest smile for the fact that Kagami feels the urge to whisper in a closed VR setting. But they smooth their expression into one of quiet interest as they consider these words. "Do you trust this GPPI you're working with? Who is his client?"

* * *

He grins. "I am working with two GPPI's. One working for the Police and the other for the Longbows." He shrugs and grins. "I trust him." He speaks softly. "That's all I can say about it."

* * *

"The police and the Longbows," Winter repeats, "so the Longbows twice, in effect. I see. I won't share what you've told me." They pick up their cup again, to finish the cooling tea and refill it.

* * *

Kagami nods his head and grins. "I guess so." He shrugs his shoulders and looks at her carefully. "Either way it gives me an excuse to be around him sometimes, you know? Nothing is going to happen but at least I can imagine."

* * *

"If you're both working a case together, I expect that certainly does provide ample time in one another's company," Winter agrees, letting go of the details of the case as Kagami shifts away from it. "And there's nothing wrong with fantasizing or having unrequited feelings, as long as you can keep it all in perspective."

* * *

Kag nods his head. "I need to stop telling him stuff." He speaks softly. "I know he doesn't see me like that and that's okay. It's his choice and I am not the type of person to force anything. So he is as free as opensource code." He nods slowly and leans back gripping the tea cup. "I need someone else to fantasize about because it's making my feelings hurt."

* * *

"That's the human condition to some degree," Winter offers gently, "seeking connection and often not succeeding as we had hoped. But, you're aware of the situation you're in, and that you're looking for other outlets, other connections, is good and healthy. How have things been with your family, this week?"

* * *

Kag takes a moment to think about it and nod. He sighs quietly and shakes his head. "I returned his clothes and neither one looked at me very long. We still chat via ONI but that's it." He shakes his head. "My dad says he's happy his child is alive but he needs to get used to having a son."

* * *

"Well, you can certainly give them my contact information, if you think they might be interested," Winter offers. "I agree that your parents may need some time to adjust, but I think some VR sessions all together might help facilitate that. Right now, it seems they're more avoiding you than trying to adapt to the change in your sleeve."

* * *

Kag nods his head and sighs quietly. "I'll direct them here. I think my mom has anger issues with this." He touches his chest. "I feel very disconnected with them. They don't want a white boy." He sips his now cool tea. "I think you can help them."

* * *

"You're still yourself, whatever your sleeve," Winter replies, "though that can be difficult to remember when the face they see has changed. But, they could see you as you looked in your birth sleeve in VR. We could make the transition more gradual, if that's what they need to process."

* * *

Kag nods his head. "Perhaps but won't that mess me up accepting the sleeve?" He looks down to his body and takes a deep breath. "It's a matter of… I honestly want them happy and to be close to them again. I hope I can." He grins warmly.

* * *

"I think… it might remind them that sleeves are only skin deep, which might ultimately help them accept the body you have now," Winter says. "A bit counter-intuitive, I know, but sometimes the opportunity to see a loved one as they were helps family begin to accept them as they are after a sleeve change." They considers Kagami's question as they take a cookie and nudge the plate closer to the young man. "As far as how it will affect you and how you relate to your sleeve, I think that's entirely for you to say. If you feel wearing your birth sleeve in VR will make it harder for you to connect with your current sleeve in the real, then certainly, you shouldn't feel obligated to do so."

* * *

Kag nods his head and grins. He takes the cookie and just devours it. He nods his head and takes a deep breath. "I want to help my family. Whatever it takes to do so." He finishes off his tea and grins at her. "I refuse to self harm. Though I must say… I am sure this body is telling me how hungry it is because I'm fantasizing about swimming in a pizza pool."

* * *

"Well, I certainly approve of and support refraining from self harm," Winter agrees with a faint smile. "We're close to time for today, if you're ready to jack out and eat again."

* * *

The man nods his head and grins. "Thanks Doc." He lifts his hands and then disappears into the real. He slowly sits up as his stomach growls. He fixes his hair and slides from the seat. He stretches his body out before moving to the door to collect his shoes.
