Ambition. Drive. Ruthlessness. The core values that, for so many who made their living in the Uppers, was the very reason for their being. Those who had only just brushed the surface of that world wished to raise themselves up, and those who lived in the upper tiers sought ever to reach for greater heights. So it was quite understandable that these were precisely the watchwords that became the altars at which Niobe Chen would worship. She was the youngest child of Jiao Michel Chen, a corporate banker and Akira Chen, a news editor, which, was really, more of a news fixer, as her company dealt, primarily in the business of controlling what news was and wasn't released to the lower levels of Bay City.
With three siblings before her, two sisters and her father's favoured son, the ladder to success began nearly from the time of her birth. The best nannies, the best tutors, the best that their money count provide. The sort of favoured life that those down on the ground would never know, but could only imagine. But living in even the Uppers version of luxury was not without its own challenges. Friends were few, and competition for favour, even within her own family was rife. And so, Niobe studied, she learned, she looked for ways to leverage her advantages to her favour, a mindset which did not sit well with her other siblings, who, being, even at the nearest gap, some ten years older than she, saw their youngest sibling as something of an upstart. Odd to say of a family, but then, the dynamic was never one of loving kindness within the Chen household.
Once Niobe was old enough to find her own way, she applied for, and was accepted to a program in corporate law, and excelled, having allowed herself no margin for failure. Upon graduating, she took a job as a corporate lawyer at her father's firm, ignoring the whispers of nepotism. It was, in no small part, the bread and butter of the Uppers. She strove, instead, to distinguish herself in her role and to make a name for herself among the elite. And so she did, moving from company to company, headhunting for the best position of power, until she settled into her place at Psychasec, where she became part of their legal team.
Niobe, ever the ambitious one, took every opportunity afforded her and, over the span of the next twenty years, found herself moving away from pure law and into the field of corporate espionage and securities, becoming one of the company's most skilled fixers. She settled accounts that needed settling, she made deals and constructed bribes. All in an effort to serve the needs of the company, its interests and to protect the privacy and privileges for which Psychasec was so well know and respected. Rather than, at the age of fifty taking a well-earned and comfortable requirement, Niobe requested to remain with the company, and allowed herself to be resleeved, having grown out of the sleeve into which she had been born. Looks can, after all, be so very deceiving.
A diminutive woman, with pale skin and a softness to her features that might, under most circumstances leave one with the adjective 'angelic' or perhaps 'innocent' on the lips. Milky cream skin accents a rounded face, a small, pert nose, full, naturally rosy lips, and effervescent blue-green eyes. Her hair is bone-straight and in a fiery red hue so rich it could only be completely natural.
Her figure is slender, but not slim, curvaceous but well-toned. Her clothing is, under every circumstance elegant and perfectly accessorized. The sort of clothing that seems to be the uniform of those who made their lives and their living in the Uppers.
